|

I have formulated a custom "Welcome message" - correctly as far as I can determine, since the Custom box is present in the component list.
However, no matter how fervently I save it, move it, save it again, try elsewhere in case it is the position that is unacceptable , save - save save: I cannot make it actually appear where I want it, which is above the categories in my left column. I tried also in the right column here and there - but it remains invisible to the naked eye.
What am I doing wrong?? Here is my blog:

Thank you! |

The Welcome Text component only displays to users who have logged in to the blog. When you are not logged in, you won't see the component.
When I log into your site, I see the Welcome Text: it says Welcome, username where username is of course the username of the person who just logged in... Log out and that text will no longer appear. |

Ah! So how would I make that same text appear to first time visitors? A lot of my clients and customers are extremely shy and nervous about their computers, and nnot very knowledgeable, and that is what I designed the text for. Thanks, John!

I think we're talking about 2 different components... There is a standard builtin Welcome Text component which works as I described, also you might have made your own custom component which might be named similarly but will not display dynamically as our standard component does. I.e. it will show for everyone.
Make sure you drag that component onto your layout (hold your mouse over a component to see the full name, sometimes the name appears truncated and you will need to hold your mouse over it to see the full name) and drag the standard component out, and I think your blog will look the way you want it to. |
