I post an article. Excerpts are turned off. Or idon't tick the box. Now I decide, becasue its way too long that i'd like to excerpt it. I can't seem to get it back.

Once you post your article, you can not automatically generate an excerpt, you must manually create one. Just enter your excerpt in the excerpt area and Save the article and it will have an excerpt.

Tip: When using the Rich Text Editor it's almost always better to create your excerpts manually. Sometimes the automatically generated excerpts contain unbalanced HTML, and require some fiddling with to ensure that the page displays correctly.
