Is there a way to automatically make all linked URL's open in a new window?
Thanks! |

I have been testing blog services for a few weeks now and when I see something like this it really makes me wonder. Here we have this advanced blog creation software, yet when it comes to assigning a simple link parameter we need to add Javascript. This is the same crap in TypePad. Why the heck can't the developer just add a simple little checkmark and some tiny code that says "Open link in new window". I mean, this is 2006 and we're still coding in manual HTML for this kind of simple stuff.
I'm sorry but I think that we all could apply our efforts more constructively in some higher order of creativity than trying to add some javascript to trick the system into making all links open in a new window. And what if I have one link that I don't want to open in a new window -- and what if some other JS interferes with this script.
Is it just me? .. well maybe. |

That's a fair criticism. Though in 2006 many browsers are offering methods for users to block links from opening new windows, and it seems that many users would rather see the new window thing just go away and become something they control rather than something dictated by the website.

If you have one link you don't want to open in a new window, you were going to have to edit all your links individually anyway, one way or another. This Javascript technique simply allowed you to easily alter your blog globally to set all offsite links to open in a new window... |
