A question was asked today by one of our bloggers:

Is there a way to customize the Recent Articles component so that it
only lists articles in a particular category - on the main page, for
instance?

There's no way to customize the Recent Articles component to only show the recent articles from a specific category. But there is a little trick you can use which would get similar results.

Two features you can put together to create this:

So what you can do is create an RSS Headline Component to consume one of your own category RSS feeds...

If your category is at http://demo.blogharbor.com/blog/Features then the RSS feed for that category is at http://demo.blogharbor.com/blog/Features/index.xml . Use that URL for your RSS Headline Component and you'll end up with a sidebar component that displays the links the most recent articles in a specific category.

The only thing you need to note is that we only scan for updates to RSS feeds every few hours, so it might take that long for your component to get updated when you post a new article.

Thanks for the help John. Of course, the fact that the feeds are not updated real-time is a pretty big drawback to this go-around. I hope that Blogharbor attempts to remedy this problem in the future - it doesn't seem like it should be very difficult to design a component that would serve this function.
