It would be good to have an email warning for system downtime, esp for those of us who are blogging for business, as I do.

Today I had someone come to be shown how to set up a blog. I explained why I recommended Blogharbor, then after a lot of frustration trying to open the site, saw the message on the screen that the site was down at that time for maintenance.

My suggestion is to have a broadcast email set up to be sent when you know there is going to be downtime.Then we can rearrange our schedules.

That is our practice, and we actually did do just as you describe; we sent an email to all of our upgraded accounts alerting them to the fact that we would have an outage this evening. I am sure you will find that mail in your mailbox...

Unfortunately it was necessary to do so with a lot less notice than we would prefer. We did feel that this emergency maintenance was important enough that we go forward with it despite the lack of advance notice.

Yes, and I found the email - my error as it was at an address I do not check more than once or twice a day. I do appreciate that sometimes immediate action is necessary. Mind you, the experience demonstrated for me the truth of an axiom I developed years ago, that as soon as you choose to demonstrate some technology, that is the precise moment when it will not function Smile
