John, I wonder if I can reduce bandwith usage by not including pics directly
(i.e. not uploading them to Blogharbor), but rather from Flickr? (now you
see how little I know of this stuff...)

I guess the most technically accurate answer to this would be that images uploaded to Flickr and displayed on your blog do not consume your blog's bandwidth when your weblog page loads, the visitor is downloading the image from Flickr and not your blog...
