Hello,
I am in the process of designing my blog and want to put my own header on it. What width should I make it so that it goes totally from left to right on the Minimist (I think that's what it's called) template?

Since that template is a full screen template, there's no answer to this question as the blog design will always stretch to the width of the screen size. Design your header logo to have the same background color as your header so as to blend in, and don't make it any wider than 600 pixels, and it should look fine regardless of the size of your user's monitor.
