Arg! You're right on the spelling. Bloody buggers!
Me again: Hmmmm. I'm wondering if we're talking the same thing. For example, here are a few of my referrer stats from yesterday:
http://online-casinos.6q.org/ (9 requests)
http://video-poker.6q.org/ (6 requests)
http://casino-games.6q.org/ (5 requests)
http://online-casino.6q.org/ (separate lline item with another 4 requests)
I assume these URLs are from the same bloody spammer. But wouldn't your stats app see these as just 3 distinct hosts that made 24 referrals? I wouldn't count these as up to 24 distinct hosts would I?
Is what I wrote immediately above correct, though? Or rather, is it correct if I said it translated into 4 distinct hosts making 24 referrals. And remind me one more time, are those referrals counted as page views?

Well, referer stats are not designed to tell you about who clicked on a page to get to your site. They tell you what page what was clicked on. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, there is really no relationship between Distinct Hosts/ Visitors and Referers, they are apples and oranges.
And remind me one more time, are those referrals counted as page views?
Referers are part of an HTML request, so it would be correct to say that what you see in your referer stats is a subset of your overall HTML page views (not all HTML accesses have a referer).
It helps new users who are searching for information in the forums to have topic threads focused on the original question, so I am going to close this thread as I think the original question has been pretty well answered by now. If you have any additional related questions, please post a new topic. |
