John,
I'm unclear on how someone would subscribe to just a category in a blog rather than the entire thing. Is that possible?
I've tried opening Subscribe and scrolling down to a category and selecting the RSS link in that category. However when I copy the shown in the RSS feed into an aggregator, all blog articles show in the aggreator instead of just those assigned to the category.
For example, if I enter
http://bigcatchronicles.blogharbor.com/blog/Energy
into an aggregator, all blog articles show.
I also tried it where I added /index.html to the end of the URL (such as http://bigcatchronicles.blogharbor.com/blog/Energy/index.html
and that creates an error message in the aggregator.
What am I missing? _________________ Thanks!

Please note the Subscribe feature on our service is about subscribing to email notifications of new articles. We began developing our service in 2003 and found that many users did not understand RSS, which is still actually true in 2005, so we added a way to receive articles by email for those who prefer that as a means of subscribing to a blog.
The Subscribe link leads to the Account Creation & Subscription Options page, where you can subscribe to receive articles by email, and choose to receive all articles or only articles posted to a particular category. The actual RSS newsfeed URLs for the Main Page and the categories are also listed there for your reference.
For example, if I enter http://bigcatchronicles.blogharbor.com/blog/Energy into an aggregator, all blog articles show.
That is not an RSS URL, it's the category URL; it's just a regular web address... The RSS feed for the category is http://bigcatchronicles.blogharbor.com/blog/Energy/index.xml .
I also tried it where I added /index.html to the end of the URL (such as http://bigcatchronicles.blogharbor.com/blog/Energy/index.html and that creates an error message in the aggregator
That's because URL you listed is incorrect, add index.xml to the end of any category URL and that is the category newsfeed.
Your blog has a component called Dynamic RSS Newsfeeds. On your blog it is displayed on the bottom right of the sidebar. It will provide the orange XML icon with a link to the Main Page or general newsfeed as well as the current category's feed. That component is intended as one way for you to advertise to your users the fact that RSS feeds exist for your blog. |
